Surgical Evaluation for the Tetralogy of Fallot

Abstract

|
Tetralogy of Fallot could become the first radical correction at our Chonnam university in 1978. From 1978 to 1996, total 116 cases(age=12 months to 35 years) of Tetralogy of Fallot(T.O.F.) were corrected by radical operation with cardio- pulmonary bypass. The purpose of this study were to evaluate the expired factors and compared the preoperative variable and operative technincs between survival and expired group. Total 116 cases were divided two group. A group was expired T.O.F. (number=25 patients) and B group was survival patient(number=91 patients). The total opertive mortality was 21%(25/116). A group(death) was significant in pathoanatomy(combined anamalies = valvular + infundibular stenosis), transventricular approach to closure of ventricular septal defect, total time of cardiopulmonary bypass and total time of aortic clamp. Major cauese of death and postoperative complications were low cardiac output syndrome. The next was complete AV block, acute respiratory failure, acute renal failure, sepsis and cerebral ischemia in the order.
